Throwing

Basic Throwing Level 1: for ages 16+  /  $250

No Prerequisite

This 6-week course will provide introductory exposure to, and skill building in the art of wheel throwing. Students will learn to manipulate clay on the potter’s wheel, creating functional, unique and personal pieces. Focus is on centering and throwing basic forms for students with little to no prior pottery experience. Course fee includes 25 pounds of clay, use of tool kit, shelf space, all glazes and firings, plus additional 35+ Open Practice hours in which students are encouraged to practice and play.

Basic Throwing Level 2: for ages 16+  /  $250

Prerequisite – Basic Throwing: Level 1

Once you’ve mastered centering and cylinders in Level 1, it’s time to move into Level 2. A brief review of the basics will be followed by 6 weeks of instruction in more complicated forms like pitchers, mugs, and bowls. Learn to make and attach handles. Practice forming elegantly bowed bases and collars.  Incorporate advanced techniques to alter the rims and bodies by cutting and indenting. Course fee includes 25 pounds of clay, use of tool kit, shelf space, all glazes and firings, plus additional 35+ Open Practice hours in which students are encouraged to practice and play.

Intermediate Throwing: for ages 16+  /  $250

Prerequisite – Basic Throwing: Level 2

This 6-week Intermediate course provides intermediate and advanced instruction in the art of wheel throwing. Focus is on expanding individual skill and proficiency on basic forms as well as embellishing techniques and glazes for students with at least one session of Pottery Works Basic Throwing: Level 2 already completed. Students are encouraged to bring their own creative project ideas to the class and work with the instructor to complete. Course fee includes 25 pounds of clay, tool kit, shelf space, all glazes and firings, plus additional 35+ Open Practice hours in which students are encouraged to practice and play.

One Day Wheel Class  /  $120 for 1 participant; $160 for 2 participants

No prior experience is required. Our instructor will show and assist you with the basic techniques of throwing on the potter’s wheel. You will get to keep the bowl or cylinder you have successfully created. We will glaze and fire it for you with a glaze of your choosing, and we will email you to let you know your pieces are ready to be picked up. For ages 16+ 

Dirty Date Night: Couples Special  /  $160 per couple

No prior experience is required. Our instructor will show and assist you and your partner with the basic techniques of throwing on the potter’s wheel. You will get to keep the bowl or cylinder you have successfully created. We will glaze and fire it for you with a glaze of your choosing, and we will email you to let you know your pieces are ready to be picked up.

Want to sign up with another couple for a Double Dirty Date Night? No problem! Just contact us to add two participants to your booking and we'll add an hour of instruction to make sure everyone gets the assistance they need. Double Dirty Date Nights are 6-9pm, $320.

1:1 Sessions  /  $320

Work with a dedicated instructor to custom-build your ideal 3-session private course (2 hours per session). Learn the basic techniques of throwing on the potter's wheel and work a number of pieces to completion over 6 hours of private instruction. All instruction, materials, glazes, firings, and use of studio tools included. For ages 16+ Flexible scheduling available. Please contact us to reserve your 1:1 Sessions.

Hand-Building

Adult Hand-Building Basic  /  $250

Participants will create functional vessels or sculptural objects by exploring the fundamentals of hand-building. Students will learn the techniques of coil and slab building and glaze their work to create virtually anything they can dream up. The use of tools such as molds, extruded, and the slab roller will be demonstrated. For ages 16+ No previous experience is needed. Course fee includes 25 pounds of clay, use of each tool kit, shelf space, all glazes and firings, plus additional 35+ Open Practice hours in which students are encouraged to practice and play.

 

Pottery For All  /  Tues 3:30-5:30pm $240

Tailored for potters 8+ No experience required, and conveniently scheduled for after school: 3:30-5:30pm. Fee includes all instruction, materials, and firings. Support staff are invited to work side-by-side at no extra charge.

 

Family Clay  /  Saturday

The entire family can explore the fundamental techniques of hand-building and an introduction to the wheel. We will learn the techniques of pinch pots, coils and slabs and glaze your work to create virtually anything you can dream up. The use of tools such as molds, pottery wheel, and the slab roller will be demonstrated. No previous experience is needed. Course fee includes 25 pounds of clay, tool kit, shelf space, all glazes and firings, plus additional 35+ Open Practice hours in which students are encouraged to practice and play. Mini Snow People Scene / Nov 5, 12 & 26

3-Session Workshop with Darlene Aspinwall

No Experience Necessary! In this 3-Session Workshop participants will build and embellish your mini snow people in the first session, build and embellish your animals and tree in the second session, and finish and glaze in the third. We will fire them and let you know your pieces are ready to be picked up. For ages 16+. Course fee includes all instruction and materials, firings, use of tools, and glazes.

Hand-Built Mugs /  Nov 6 & 20 6-8pm

2-Session Workshop with Annette McMahon

Learn the fundamentals of hand-building while creating two unique mugs. Build and embellish on the first date -- finish and glaze on the second.  Includes all instruction and materials, firings, use of tools, and glazes. For ages 16+

Twinkle Tree  /  Nov 7  6-8pm

1-Session Workshop with Darlene Aspinwall

Back by popular demand! No Experience Necessary! Learn the fundamentals of hand building in this 1 Session Workshop while creating a unique twinkle tree. For ages 16+. Course fee includes all materials, glazes, firings, use of studio tools and colored bulbs to insert once the piece is completed.

Travel Mug  /  Nov 14  6-8pm

1-Session Workshop with Darlene Aspinwall

No Experience Necessary! Learn the fundamentals of hand building in this 1 Session Workshop while creating a unique travel mug. We will glaze and fire it for you with a glaze of your choosing and we will let you know when your piece is ready to be picked up. For ages 16+. Course fee includes all materials, glazes, firings, and use of studio tools. 

Spiral Tree  /  Nov 19 & Dec 3  6-8pm

2-Session Workshop with Annette McMahon

No experience necessary! Join Annette as she guides you through this festive hand-building ceramics project over two sessions. Build and accessorize in session 1; personalize and glaze in session 2.  Course fee includes all materials, instruction, and firing fees. Ages 16+
